Trail & Peak is a free app that tracks your real hikes, rewards you with points and badges, and puts you on a leaderboard with your hiking crew — all verified by GPS.
These three things work today. Log a hike, earn points, and see where you stack up against your friends — no extra setup needed.
Open the app at the trailhead and hit record. Trail & Peak tracks your route using your phone's GPS, then saves your distance, elevation gain, and time. Each completed hike earns XP based on difficulty.
Works todayEvery hike earns you XP and works toward badges like "Summit Seeker," "Early Bird," and "Rainy Day Champ." Hike at least once a week to keep your streak alive — miss a week and you start over, just like Duolingo.
Works todayFind friends by username or connect your existing AllTrails account. Every Sunday, a fresh leaderboard resets and you compete on who hikes the most XP that week. A simple nudge keeps everyone accountable.

Challenge a specific friend to a 30-day hiking duel. Whoever hikes more days wins bragging rights and a special badge — you'll both get a reminder nudge if one of you falls behind.
Get a weekly "Trail of the Week" recommendation based on your location and skill level, with difficulty ratings and estimated XP before you even lace up your boots.
A full dashboard showing your total miles hiked, elevation gain over time, favorite trails, and how your fitness is trending month over month — like Strava, but built around XP.
Create a group hike event, invite your crew, set a trail and a date, and see who RSVPs. Everyone who shows up and logs the hike earns bonus XP together.
Here's exactly what happens when you sign up and go on your first hike.
Install Trail & Peak, pick a username, and choose your home region (Pacific Northwest, Rockies, Appalachian, etc.). Takes about two minutes.
Search for friends by username or share your invite link. Once connected, you'll both appear on each other's weekly leaderboard starting Sunday.
Tap "Start Hike" when you arrive at the trail. The app tracks your GPS route in the background — you don't need to stare at your phone. Tap "Finish" when you're done.
Your hike is saved, XP is added, and any new badges pop up instantly. Then check who's leading the weekly leaderboard — your friends can see your hike too.
